Follow this step-by-step guide to get the most out of ZeroAuth. Each section walks you through a key feature with clear instructions and helpful tips.

Step 1

Launch & Unlock the App

Open ZeroAuth on your device. If this is your first time, you will be prompted to create a secure PIN. On subsequent launches, authenticate with your PIN or biometrics (Face ID / fingerprint) to access your vault.

Enable Face ID or fingerprint unlock in Settings for faster access. Your biometric data never leaves your device.

Step 2

Your Authenticator Dashboard

After unlocking, you land on the main Dashboard. All your added accounts are listed here, each showing a live OTP and a countdown timer. Tap any code to copy it instantly to your clipboard.

The countdown ring next to each code shows how many seconds remain before a new code is generated. Aim to use codes with at least 5 seconds left.

Step 3

Add a New Account

Tap the '+' button on the Dashboard to add a new authenticator account. You can either scan a QR code provided by a website or service, or enter the secret key manually if a QR code is not available.

When adding manually, make sure the TOTP secret is entered exactly as shown — it is case-sensitive and usually a Base32 string.

Step 4

Personalise Your Profile

Access your profile from the top-right avatar icon. Here you can set a display name, review your account list, and manage imported/exported vaults. Keeping a recognisable name helps distinguish devices in multi-device setups.

Step 5

Grant Required Permissions

ZeroAuth may request Camera permission (to scan QR codes) and Biometrics/Face ID permission (for biometric unlock). Both are optional — you can always use manual entry and PIN unlock instead.

Denying camera permission only affects QR scanning. All other features remain fully functional.

Step 6

Create an Encrypted Backup

Go to Settings → Backup & Export to create an AES-256 encrypted backup of your entire vault. Store the backup file in a safe place — your cloud storage, a USB drive, or any location only you control.

Never share your backup file or backup QR code with anyone. Anyone who has both the file and password can access all your accounts.

Step 7

Configure App Settings

Open the Settings screen from the bottom navigation or the gear icon. Here you can change your PIN, toggle biometric unlock, configure auto-lock timeout, switch the app theme, and manage your backup schedule.
